Employee lacerated finger while draining a hopper

On October 28, 2003 Employee #1 took off the guard on a pipe on a hopper in an attempt to try and loosen the powdered metal and drain the hopper. Employee #1 began using his fingers to loosen the powder when another employee started the auger. Employee #1 received a lacerated finger which required hospitalization. The equipment needs to be on and working for the powder to drain from the hopper.
