Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 201068269
Event: 08/31/2004
Employee's abdomen is cut by hand saw

On August 31, 2004, an employee was working cutting the last post for a second-story roof. He was working on the bottom of the roof, between the ceiling joist and the roof. The employee was positioned between two rafters and had the guard pinned back on an HD 77 Skilsaw. He was making the cut about chest level and the saw blade grabbed his T-shirt. The saw then pulled towards the employee's body, cutting his abdomen. The saw made a 9-inch laceration to his abdomen, causing his intestines to fall out. The employee was eviscerated and his intestines fell to the ground. He did not lose consciousness. The employee was hospitalized and underwent surgery to staple the abdomen back together.
