Beam Kicks Out And Strikes And Kills Employee

The company was hired to frame a residential home. The crane operator had set the beams in the pockets of the block foundation. After the crane operator had left, Employee #1, the company owner, decided a 60-ft beam had to be moved. Employee #1 and two coworkers attempted to move the beam 10-in. to 12-in. by hand while another coworker held the middle post. The opposite end of the beam kicked out causing the beam to knock Employee #1 off a step ladder. The beam landed on Employee #1's chest, crushing him to death.
