Employee killed when struck by falling tree

On October 27, 2003, Employee #1 was performing manual tree falling operations within the fall radius of a danger (snag) tree. The danger tree was located approximately 8 feet from the tree being felled. Employee #1 began retreating as the tree he was cutting began to fall. Employee #1 had retreated approximately 16 feet from the stump of the tree being felled when the danger tree broke off approximately 12 feet above the ground and struck him. Employee #1 was killed.
