Investigation Summary
At approximately 11:00 a.m. on May 6, 2006, Employee #1 was performing his regularly assigned duties for JCJ Dairy in Hanford, CA. He was positioned inside the extended bucket of a John Deere Model Number 444J front end loader, removing the twine holding down the protective tarp of a haystack. He was approximately ten feet above ground level. He was cutting one of the lines holding down the tarp, when a bale of hay above him, weighing approximately 500 pounds, began to fall from a height of about 18.5 feet. His coworker, the loader operator, backed up the tractor, and Employee #1 turned his body away in an attempt to avoid the falling bale. The bale caught him against the rear bar of the bucket anyway, causing an unspecified injury to his abdomen. He was hospitalized for treatment at University Medical Center in Fresno.
