Employee Dies after Being Crushed by Falling Horse

On August 21, 2002, Employee #1 and a coworker were working on horseback to move calves when one calf escaped. Employee #1 roped the errant calf and dragged him a short distance to a gate. The coworker dismounted and released the calf. He then heard a noise behind him, turned, and saw Employee #1 lying underneath his horse, which had apparently reared and fallen on her side, landing on top of Employee #1. Employee #1 told the coworker that the saddle horn had struck him in the abdomen. He was transported to a local hospital, where he died several hours later. Before he died, Employee #1 stated that he did not know why his horse had reared.
