Employee Dies after Fall from Wood Truss

On August 19, 2002, Employee #1 was cutting and engineering wooden trusses on the second floor of a building under construction. The acting foreman was outside the building at the top of the second floor, installing fascia boards on the truss ends by standing on a plywood platform resting on the elevated forks of a Lull forklift. When the foreman reached the southwest part of the wall, he looked over and asked Employee #1 to throw him some nails. Employee #1 climbed a ladder, stood on the bottom chord of the trusses, and threw the nails up to the foreman. The foreman was bending over to pick them up from the platform when Employee #1 fell forward against the west-facing fascia board in front of him. He fell 25 feet to the ground, striking an unfinished block formation for the air conditioning unit. Employee #1 was transported by helicopter to the hospital, but died en route as a result of his injuries.
