Employee Drowns in Water-Filled Mine

On July 31, 2002, Employee #1 was using an auger shovel to plant cord grass at an old sand mine that was being restored to wetlands. The sand mine contained runoff water to a depth of approximately 50 ft. Employee #1 apparently had his back turned to the water when he slipped and fell in. He did not know how to swim and he drowned.
