Employee killed in fall from 70-ft tree

At approximately 11:15 a.m. on December 10, 2002, Employee #1, employed by Zemer's Tree Maintenance in Tyler, Texas, was removing a 90-ft pine tree from the property. Employee #1 was one of a five-man crew working at the site. Employee #1 was the only one in the tree when he was cutting a tree limb. He cut through his own safety line and fell 70 ft to the ground. He was transported by Emergency Medical Services to East Texas Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 12:09 p.m. The post mortem toxicology report from the Dallas County Medical Examiner's office indicated significant amount of marihuana, cannabinoids, and methamphetamine in his blood.
