Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 201145711
Event: 06/23/2004
Employee punctured by nail gun

On June 23, 2004, Employee #1 and a coworker were engaged in framing operations for residential and commercial construction. Employee #1 was in the process of framing a wooden wall, which was laid flat on the floor. He was using a pneumatically powered nail gun to attach the different members of the wall. Employee #1 was bent down working with both legs spread around the joint he was nailing. The back part of the nail gun accidentally hit an anchor bolt installed in the concrete. The nail gun bounced forward into his left leg, which caused the gun to fire a nail. Employee #1 was hit by a nail which pierced through his left leg, about 4 inches above the ankle. The nail penetrated the entire width of his leg. This nail was removed by the coworkers at the site using some hand tools. Employee #1 was taken to the hospital and examined, no damage to any of his bones was found. Employee #1 was hospitalized for two days and released.
