Investigation Summary
On December 18, 2003, Employee #1, a carpenter was inspecting the level of a ridge beam as it was being installed in a new home under construction. The top of the beam was 14.58-ft above a concrete floor. He was using an extension ladder to view the level of the ridge. The ladder had no feet and as he was adjusting the level, the ladder slid out from under him. Employee #1 fell approximately 8-ft, striking a brace before landing on the floor. He suffered a fracture to both bones of his left lower leg and a fracture to the left shoulder. He was taken to the hospital. At the hospital, he received surgery to reset the broken bones in his lower legs and left shoulder. He was hospitalized following the surgical procedures for postoperative care.
