Employee Suffers Fracture In Fall From Roof

At approximately 8:30 a.m. on June 23, 2003, Employee #1 was working at a multi-family, triplex-style, residential project. The employer had subcontracted the setting of the 4-in. by 10-ft-long nominal beams. This work was done on a Saturday. The rooms have 8-ft bearing walls. On the following Monday, Employee #1 took his tools and climbed to the top plate. Employee #1 accessed the top plate and turned and stepped on one of the first floor nominal beams. The beam rolled and Employee #1 jumped to the ground landing in the dirt. The beam setter did not fully connect the beam. The beam had been tacked in place, on one end only, with two nails. The falling beam struck Employee #1's right leg. Employee #1 suffered a fractured right leg and was hospitalized.
