Employee's hand amputated by table saw

On November 12, 2001, Employee #1 was operating a 10-in. table saw in order to rip and crosscut "Starboard", a white-colored composite that is used to mount and level marine electronic equipment on the dashboards of marine vessels. Employee #1 was performing this activity for about one hour when he came in contact with the blade while performing a ripping activity on the "Starboard". Employee #1's four fingers on his left hand were severely lacerated at the second knuckle region and he was transported to the Hand Unit in Baltimore, MD. The saw blade was unguarded. Employee #1 was hospitalized.
