Employee killed when struck by tree limb

At 12:50 p.m. on October 18, 2000, Employee #1 and a coworker, both Department of Transportation highway maintenance workers, were cutting down a tree. When the tree fell it seesawed on the highway embankment, which was approximately 23 ft away. The seesawing action caused a dead limb from the tree to be thrown into the air, and it struck the center of Employee #1's head as he walked away from the area. He suffered massive head injuries and was killed. He was not wearing a hard hat at the time of the accident.
