Investigation Summary
Employee #1 and two coworkers were on the roof of a building being remodeled when inclement weather forced them to get off. To do so, they had to descend a fixed ladder that led down to a balcony approximately 9 ft above the ground floor. The first coworker went down to the balcony. Employee #1 then began to descend the ladder, holding a cooler in his left hand and onto the ladder with his right hand. He fell backward onto the rails of the balcony and then to the ground floor. Employee #1 was transported to a local hospital, where he died of head trauma sustained in the accident. An electrical conduit running behind the ladder may have caused him to lose his footing.
