Employee Dies When A Two Ton Blade Falls Striking Him

An employee was helping to repair a "grader": blade weighing approximately 4,000 pounds. The blade was suspended about one foot above the shop floor by an overhead crane. As the blade was being lowered to the floor the crane's cables broke. The blade bounced off a forklift truck that was helping to position the blade. The blade struck the employee in the back, fatally injuring him.
