Employee Burned in Chemical Explosion

At approximately 9:13 p.m. on January 26, 2001, a process tank in the K-2 process area suddenly over pressurized and exploded. Employee #1 was in the control room of the process area and sustained burns to his hands and face, but was able to escape the area under his own power. Significant damage was sustained by the plant and a small fire resulted, as some chemical components in the process ignited. Employee #1 was transported to the hospital and the fire at the plant was extinguished. Employee #1 was hospitalized for his injuries.
