Employee Killed When Caught In Machinery

Three workers had been clearing a large chunk of asphalt from the mouth or chute of a mobile skid rock-crushing machine. When they succeeded in clearing the chunk of asphalt, there was a heavy rain. Two of the workers left the site to retrieve rain gear. Prior to their return, Employee #1 apparently attempted to clear remaining jammed material from the machine using a 5-ft pry bar while standing in the feeder area of the machine. It appears Employee #1 lost his footing while attempting to pry material from the hammer area and his legs slid into the hammer area. Apparently the pry bar did move suddenly and struck Employee #1 in the head and pinned him against the top of the hammer housing. Employee #1 was killed.
