Employee Dies After Being Struck By A Truck

At approximately 8:30 a.m. on December 1, 2000, Employee #1 died when he was struck by a truck. He was setting up to survey a parking lot and driveway curbs in an apartment complex under construction. The area that was surveyed was immediately adjacent to a dirt roadway being used by dump trucks to dump fill dirt. The day before, the fill operation turned to backing trucks down the roadway. Employee #1, having no safety training and wearing no PPE, began walking diagonally across the roadway, in a south easterly direction. He apparently did not notice that a truck was backing down the roadway in a southerly direction. Employee #1 was struck by the right rear side of the truck. Employee #1 was killed when the truck ran over him.
