Event: 01/14/2000
One employee killed, one injured when wall collapses

At approximately 3:15 p.m. on January 14, 2000, Employees #1 and #2 and three coworkers, of the Oceanview Construction Corporation, Boca Raton, FL, were cleaning construction debris from a one-story building. Employees #1 and #2 were working near the 14 ft tall by 142 ft long concrete north wall of the structure when it collapsed inward on them. Employee #1 was killed. Employee #2 sustained injuries to his right leg but did not require hospitalization. The wall was not braced, and rebar had not been placed in the cells of the walls. The south wall also collapsed toward the outside of the building. It was very windy at the time of the accident.
