Investigation Summary
At approximately 2:30 p.m., Employee #1 and coworkers arrived at a job site to install a sewer line for a single-family home under construction. Employee #1 was using a John Deere backhoe to dig a trench for the pipe. He was turning the backhoe parallel to the 11 degree angle of the slope when it tipped over on its left side, partially ejecting Employee #1 from the cab. He suffered a fractured pelvis and right femur, and a broken nose; he later developed renal problems associated with the crushing effect of his injuries. Witnesses stated that Employee #1 was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
