Employee's leg amputated when crushed by steel coil

Employee #1, a machine operator, and coworkers were unloading two rolls of galvanized steel slit coils from the forks of a lift truck. The forklift operator placed the coils on end on the floor and Employee #1 removed the outer bands from one so that the forklift operator could move it onto the mandrel. Apparently, the forklift knocked over the roll being moved, which fell onto another free-standing roll and it then struck Employee #1. His left leg was crushed and he was transported to Johns Hopkins Bayview Hospital, where his leg had to be surgically amputated.
