ELECTRIC SHOCK - CONTACT WITH UNDERGRND LINE THRU JACKHAMMER

A PLUMBERS SUPERVISOR WAS INSTALLING A NEW PLUMBING LINE. THE NEW LINE WAS TO BE SUPPLIED BY A TAP INTO AN EXISTING LINE. THE EMPLOYEE WAS USING A JACKHAMMER TO BREAK THE CONCRETE AROUND THE EXISTING LINE. THE JACKHAMMER'S SPIKE PENETRATED A 480-VOLT UNDERGROUND POWER LINE IN A CONCRETE DUCT BANK. FORTUNATELY, THE SUPERVISOR WAS KNOCKED FREE OF THE JACKHAMMER AND SUSTAINED ONLY AN ELECTRIC SHOCK FOR WHICH HE WAS HOSPITALIZED.
