Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 201881166
Event: 10/29/2002
Employee killed in car accident

At approximately 12:02 p.m. on October, 29, 2002, Employee #1, a police detective, was operating an unmarked police vehicle (Year: 1996, Make: Chevrolet, Model: Caprice). For some reason, while driving through an intersection, Employee #1 was struck on the passenger side of his vehicle. This collision forced his car into the oncoming eastbound passing lanes of a highway. His vehicle was subsequently impacted by a pick-up truck, which spun Employee #1's car counter clockwise. The car was then impacted again by the first vehicle that hit him, increasing the velocity of the spin. Employee #1 was ejected from his vehicle and struck a New York State Electric and Gas utility pole. Employee #1 was hospitalized and determined dead, due to his injuries sustained. A detailed investigation revealed that the accident and injuries sustained were not a result of a violation of a workplace safety standard.
