Investigation Summary

On March 27, 2002, Employee #1 collapsed without apparent reason. He had just begun work raking and leveling soil, and he had stopped for a short break. He clutched the rake that he was holding and dropped to his knees and then went face forward into the mud. A coworker, trained in CPR, started to administer mouth to mouth resuscitation and then chest compressions. Paramedics from the Niagara Falls Fire Department took over when they arrived and the ambulance service transported Employee #1 to the Niagara Falls Medical Center. The police report indicates that numerous attempts to revive Employee #1 were made at the hospital but efforts were terminated at instructions of a Doctor and Employee #1 was pronounced dead at 11:40 a.m. An autopsy is scheduled with the Erie County Medical Examiner's Office but the pathology report may take two weeks for results. The police report indicates that they had been informed that the deceased had a condition known as tachycardia but it was not know if this was a contributing factor to Employee #1's death.
