CONSTRUCTION EMPLOYEE INJURED IN FALL FROM BUILDING

EMPLOYEE #1 WAS ASSIGNED TO CARRY, PLACE AND HELP CONNECT 20 FOOT LONG SECTIONS OF ANGLE IRON ON THE TOP STEEL OF A 160 FOOT BY 200 FOOT BUILDING. EMPLOYEE #1 AND ANOTHER EMPLOYEE WERE WALKING A DISTANCE OF 80 FEET ON THE FOUR INCH WIDE TOP OF CONNECTING JOISTS. THE JOISTS HAD BEEN PAINTED BY MISTAKE EARLIER IN THE WEEK, LEAVING A LAYER OF SLIPPERY PAINT DUST (ACCORDING TO THE FOREMAN). EMPLOYEE #1 SLIPPED ON THE DUSTY JOIST, FELL ONTO THE JOIST AND THEN 32 FEET TO THE GROUND. THE GROUND THERE WAS WET AND MUDDY. EMPLOYEE #1 RECEIVED SEVERAL BROKEN BONES, INCLUDING A BROKEN ANKLE. HE ALSO SUFFERED INTERNAL INJURIES.
