Employee is injured while operating stand up forklift

At approximately 2:35 p.m. on September 13, 2004, an employee was operating an EZ-Reach Fork truck in a warehouse. This was a stand-up forklift in which the employee operates the forklift by standing on the back end. While driving backwards down an aisle, he tried to stop the forklift but its brakes did not work. The backside of the forklift ran into a metal rack and trapped the employee between the forklift and the rack. He was hospitalized for seven days at the UCI Medical Center with bruises and internal organ injuries.
