Investigation Summary
At approximately 3:00 p.m. on April 27, 2004, Employee #1, an experienced fitter/welder who was a new employee of five months, was using a 120-volt Milwaukee sander/grinder, Model Number 6068, Serial Number 81zb400521344, rated at 6,000 rpm. He was using the sander with abrasive disks attached to smooth a notch that he had made in an engine cradle. As he moved the sander back and forth, parallel to his body, the disks dug into the frame, causing the sander to buck. The rubber disk and the abrasive disks hit him in the abdomen, causing Employee #1 to double over. He did not report the accident and went home, believing that he would feel better the following day. He told his supervisor about the accident when he returned to work and the supervisor sent him to the clinic. He was referred to Garfield Medical Center, where he remained for 3 days.
