Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 201796497
Event: 07/20/2002
Employee Falls from Roof and Suffers Multiple Injuries

At approximately 11:00 a.m. on July 20, 2002, an employee was on the roof of a two-story residence in Whittier, CA, looking for a location to mount a satellite dish. He was near the peak of the roof and walked down the approximately 40-degree sloped surface toward his ladder. He then remembered he forgot something, and turned around to go back up the roof. As he turned around, his foot slipped and he lost his traction. He fell approximately 18 feet to the ground, and bounced off the first-floor roof as he fell. The employee suffered crushing injuries to his wrists, a fractured left forearm, and head lacerations that required stitches. He was transported to Saint Francis Medical Center, where he was hospitalized for three days, and where he underwent surgery to place pins in both his wrists.
