Employee amputates fingers while using a portable power saw

At approximately 9:30 p.m. on May 25, 2004, a contract employee for JE Enterprises, working in Irvine, CA doing private home renovation, was in the driveway cutting a filler piece to fit between the mantle of fireplace and the wall behind it. He guided the piece by hand when the blade of the Ryobi 10-inch portable saw, he was using, partially amputated his left index finger and ring fingers. It also "shaved" the bone on his left thumb and shattered the bone in his left middle finger.
