Employee's thumb injured when glove caught by wood jointer

Employee #1, age 18, was operating a wood jointer when his left glove became caught in the blade drum, amputating the end of his thumb above the first joint. It was his first time using the jointer. The company had a clothing policy to prevent entanglement. It required employees wear appropriate apparel with short sleeves or sleeves rolled up above the elbow, and it prohibited the use of gloves.
