Event: 10/15/2003
Employee Sustains Abrasions to Hand Caught Between Rollers

At approximately 11:50 p.m. on October 15, 2003, Employee #1 was working for a manufacturer of foam materials, Foamex, at its facility. He was operating a foam wind-up machine, and as he fed foam between the rollers, his left hand was caught. He sustained abrasions to the back of his hand. A coworker took him to a clinic. He was not hospitalized, even though the accident caused enough tissue damage that it will be a year before he regains the full use of his hand. He has had two surgeries on the hand. There will be permanent scarring.
