Employee Falls on Stairs and Dies of Natural Causes

On July 23, 2003, Employee #1 was working at a distribution warehouse, when he fell on the stairs while carrying boxes and apparently striking his head. Employee #1 was originally diagnosed with a head contusion, cervical strain and lumbar strain and released after observation. Employee #1 returned to the hospital nine days latter suffering with a severe headache, nausea, vomiting and fever, all thought to be from the accident. Employee #1's condition progressed and he died on August 14, 2003. It was determined that all of Employee #1's symptoms were caused by a medical condition called toxoplasmosis, which is a parasitic condition typified by brain and spinal inflammation, and acute muscle pain. There was no factual evidence to support the injuries were caused by an industrial accident.
