Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 201503489
Event: 04/07/2003
Employee Injured in Fall from Roof

On April 8, 2003, Employee #1 was repairing dry-rot damage at the leading edge of the roof of a single-family house. Replacing a rafter tail, Employee #1 was screwing the new piece into the partial end of the damaged rafter using a screw drill. The drill stripped the screw head, causing the drill to slip out. Employee #1's pressure on the drill caused him to twist sideways, and he fell approximately 13 ft to a concrete driveway. Employee #1 landed on his feet. He was hospitalized with compound fractures of both legs. Employee #1 had not been using fall-restraint or fall-protection equipment.
