EMPLOYEE INJURED WHEN HAND LACERATED BY TABLE SAW

On November 5, 1997, Employee #1 of Accu-Fab Systems Inc. was cutting thick plastic material using a table saw. The saw blade was adjusted to the maximum of 3.5 inches; however, the plastic block was approximately 4 inches thick. After Employee #1 flipped the plastic block over and cut through it on the second pass, he noticed his shirt sleeve on his right arm was hanging loosely near the blade. As his attention focused on his shirt sleeve, he inadvertently moved his left hand into the running saw blade. Employee #1 severely lacerated his left thumb and forefinger, and was hospitalized but surgery was successful and he will regain most of his mobility.
