Investigation Summary
At approximately 11:20 a.m. on February 25, 2003, Employee #1, a general contractor for Cas Construction was remodeling a single family house. Another employee was operating a Skilsaw (Model Number MAG-77) to rip a piece of lumber. The foreman was also at the jobsite. The other employee was working by himself until Employee #1, trying to be helpful, began holding on to the lumber behind him without his knowledge. When Employee #1 grabbed the pieces of ripped lumber, the power saw blade binded. The saw jumped away from the lumber. The other employee was able to keep the saw away from himself. As he was swinging the saw away, it swung across Employee #1's left forearm, severely lacerating it. Employee #1 was transported to SF General Hospital where he was hospitalized for six days. The other employee was operating a power saw with the guard wired open.
