Employee Amputates Finger Using Table Saw

On January 24, 2005, Employee #1 was working with a coworker at a table saw in the company's yard. The two employees had stacked three large sheets of half-inch-thick compressed wood on the saw table to rip them into strips for concrete forming. Employee #1 was feeding the top sheet through the saw and was almost at the end of the cut when the blade hood moved. Employee #1 reacted and his left hand wound up in the gap between the saw table and the top sheet of material, coming in contact with the revolving blade. A push stick was not used or available. Employee #1 sustained an amputation of the first and second fingers on his left hand and severe lacerations to the left thumb. Employee #1 was hospitalized for three days.
