Event: 10/11/2004
Employee injured when nail gun fires into knee

On October 11, 2004, Employee #1, a carpenter for Mascon, Inc., was working at the construction site for a new school. He was on a scissor lift and was using a Hitachi nailer when he decided to put it down. He was squatting and his finger was on the trigger when, while lowering the nail gun, it bumped his knee and fired, driving a nail through two spots on his kneecap. Employee #1 sustained a puncture wound and a fracture of his patella. He was transported by the Metro Fire Department to Methodist Hospital, where he was treated and released three hours later. On October 18, 2004, Employee #1 underwent surgery on his knee and was hospitalized for four days. He returned to work on December 6, 2004.
