Employee Struck and Killed by Falling Tree

On October 1, 2004, Employee #1, with Alfonso Elena Vineyard Management, was clearing a hillside of dead trees with a crawler. When a tree limb became jammed behind the blade, Employee #1 stopped the crawler and got off to remove the limb. As he was clearing the jam, an up rooted tree with its root ball, positioned only a few feet away on the hill, rolled down the hill striking and pinning Employee #1 against the track of the crawler asphyxiating him.
