Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 201176377
Event: 08/28/2004
Employee fractures fingers when unstable load falls on them

On August 28, 2004, a temporary employee of Express Personnel Services was working in the decking department of Fleetwood Homes of CA. The production facility is located in Woodland. The employee was trying to position a dolly underneath the steel frame of a modular home whose front end had been jacked-up. A pile of decking material was located immediately in front of the frame's hitch. One or more sheets of decking material fell onto the hitch area of the frame, causing the frame to move backward and sway on the jack. The frame moved downward and crushed the employee's right hand against the dolly as he was positioning it. The employee was transported to Woodland Memorial Hospital in Woodland. The employee sustained fractures to the fingers of his right hand. Surgery was required and he was released form the hospital several days later.
