Meat Cutter Cut Fingers While Cutting Beef

Employee #1, a meat cutter, cut his thumb, index finger and middle finger while cutting a piece of beef. Employee #1 was using a Butcher Boy Meat Cutter with Model: B16-F and Serial Number: 6-22417 with an 8-inch-long blade. Employee #1 was cutting a small one-and-half inch long and three-inch-thick piece of beef, when the blade hit the beef bone the machine blade returned back and cut the right hand of Employee #1. Employee #1's right thumb, index finger and middle finger were deeply cut and the index and middle fingers had a zigzag-type cut on them from the event. Employee #1 worked at a grocery store of 38 employees with 7 employees working at meat department. Employee #1 had been working for the employer for 2 months when the incident happened. The causal factor of the incident is due to blade guard not being used as a work practice admitted by meat department supervisor and lack of training.
