Investigation Summary
At approximately 6:50 a.m. on August 13, 2002, Employee #1 was monitoring an auger attached to a Caterpillar 446B backhoe tractor. It was drilling holes for structural steel support pylons for a storm water runoff drainage channel. The Caterpillar operator was maneuvering the auger into place to drill another hole when the auger struck Employee #1. Employee #1 sustained severe lacerations to his right leg and groin and was hospitalized.
