Employee Suffers Multiple Fractures

At approximately 1:30 p.m. on April 3, 2002, Employee #1 was helping the manager of a supplier load a driver's sleeper on to a 28-ft semi trailer. The driver's sleeper was approximately 6 ft by 4 ft by 4 ft. The manager was driving forklift and he put the sleeper inside the trailer and it was still sitting on the forks and the forks were on the floor of the trailer. The sleeper was tied to the forklift with two nylon ropes. Employee #1 got up on the side of the forklift and cut one rope with a knife. Employee #1 tried to cut the second rope and he put his right hand in the frame of the mast. As Employee #1 cut the rope, the moving part of the mast that was held up with the rope fell on his right hand and crushed the hand. Employee #1 suffered multiple fractures on his right wrist. Employee #1 was hospitalized.
