Investigation Summary
On January 12, 2001, an employee was allegedly exposed to potassium hydroxide flakes while at work. The employee suffered third degree chemical burns on his left toe. The injured employee could not pinpoint exactly when, how, why, or exactly what happened that resulted in his injury. The employee's boots showed no signs of deterioration, and it could not be determined how his left toe was exposed to any chemicals. The employee stated that no liquids had spilled on his boots that day. In fact, the employee initially thought he simply had a blister from wearing new boots until 3 days later when he went to see a doctor because the wound would not heal. It was then determined that he had a chemical burn. The employee stated that his boot and sock were both intact the alleged day of exposure. He was hospitalized for his burns.
