Employee Suffers Amputation Using Table Saw

On February 4, 2006, Employee #1 was cutting a 36-in. by 24-in. PVC sign on a table saw. The material jammed. Employee #1 lifted the saw guard and then pushed the material through. The tip of Employee #1's right thumb was cut because her hands were too close to the table saw blade. Employee #1 suffered the surgical amputation of the right thumb up to the first knuckle and was released from the hospital the same day.
