Investigation Summary
An employee working for Newhall Land & Farming dismounted from a forklift after putting it in neutral with its parking brake while the engine was still running. He stopped to close a gate at the rear of a private road. The forks were about 3-inches off the ground with a load of sacks when the forklift moved backwards from its parked position. The forklift hit the employee and fractured his right foot. He was hospitalized for 2 nights at USC Medical Center and released to recuperate at home.
