Employee amputates fingers when caught by belt

On March 23, 2001, Employee #1 was working as a maintenance mechanic repairing a V-belt and pulley. The employee had finished replacing the belt when he took off his lock-out lock. The employee turned on the power and walked over to look at the belt. Employee #1 thought the belt had stopped running when he put his hand on the belt. The belt caught his hand, amputating his ring finger and pinky finger. Employee #1 was transported to local hospital, where he was treated and released.
