Employee Burned When HVAC Unit Caught Fire

At 11:30 a.m. on October 15, 2002, Employee #1 and a coworker were applying a single-layer weatherproof membrane to the wooden walls of a service well. A fire originated from the HVAC unit. The flames spread to the bucket of adhesive that Employee #1 was using to apply the product to the wall. He tried to extinguish the fire by stomping a piece of insulation into the bucket. When he did this, his pants that had adhesive on them, caught fire and he sustained second-and third-degree burns on most of his body. He was transported to the burn unit at UMC in Fresno, California.
