Trailer driver amputates finger when lift gate falls on it

On June 13, 2003, a relief truck driver working for Santee Dairies was making a delivery at the Mission West Market grocery store. The company stores and distributes milk, cheese, and ice cream products. When the driver attempted to unlatch the lift gate from the trailer, his left thumb was amputated when the lift gate suddenly fell on his thumb. He was driving Vehicle Number 3025602 and Trailer Number 6504 with a Maxxon 2550 side lift gate, Type SL-30. Employee was hospitalized.
