Employee seriously injured in fall from ladder

On October 3, 2002, an accident occurred at a company that provided maintenance services such as hydroblasting, painting, and sandblasting. Employee #1 and a coworker were working at a garage entrance on the southwest side of a building. Both employees were rolling up some shrink-wrap to make a tarp to divert dripping water to the sides of the garage entrance. The employees were standing on 8-foot portable ladders to construct the tarp. Employee #1 lost his balance and fell approximately 5 feet, and landed on the rail of his ladder. He sustained internal injuries to his small intestine, large intestine, and gall bladder. Employee #1 was hospitalized for treatment and required surgery.
